Why Choose A RecPro RV Mattress
A standard factory-provided RV mattress is almost always the same build across the board. It's a 5” to 8” mattress with internal foam fill and coiled (or “S” curved) wire supports. What this means is that every time you put pressure on these standard factory mattresses, they break down. The internal foam core, which is an old yellow foam fill, has very little bounce back, stability, or density. This foam is primarily for giving the mattress body, not support. And when you add in the metal coil supports pressing back in the opposite direction for "support", you get even more foam core breakdown.
That's why here at RecPro, we've left factory standard mattresses behind and went with a different approach - our own uniquely designed mattresses designed specifically for RVs.
Memory Foam
One of the primary features of our RV mattresses, and the main fill component, is the memory foam. We use high quality memory foam in our mattresses, without any springs, coils, or wires. This high quality memory foam offers a variety of fantastic benefits that aid in providing you with better sleep. Some of these benefits include:
- Better Pressure Relief
- Better Spinal Alignment
- Motion Isolation
- Enhanced Comfort and Support
Cooling Gel Infused
One of the biggest downsides of a memory foam mattress is its heat retention. Plain memory foam retains a lot of heat, which can cause you to feel hot, itchy, and overheated when you're trying to sleep. But, here at RecPro, we've helped reduce that issue by infusing our memory foam with a cooling gel composite.
The cooling gel provides several benefits, such as adding more support to the foam while also making it feel softer. But, the main benefit of infusing the memory foam with this cooling gel composite is that it helps diffuse heat evenly and efficiently, mitigating high temperature hot spots and keeping you cooler as you sleep.
Soft & Breathable Bamboo Ticking
"Ticking" refers to the outer finished wrap on a mattress, and bad ticking is usually the main culprit of a mattress making you feel hot and itchy. Standard mattress ticking is usually polyester, cotton, linen, or a cotton-linen blend. At RecPro, we've decided to upgrade from standard mattress ticking, choosing to use bamboo ticking instead. Bamboo ticking is a unique and natural material that offers a few benefits not found with standard ticking. Our all-natural bamboo ticking is more durable, being made from natural fibers extracted from bamboo pulp. Our unique, eco-friendly ticking is also remarkably breathable and naturally wicks away moisture, which further assists with efficient temperature mitigation for a cool and comfortable night of sleep.

RV Mattresses FAQ
Are RV mattresses the same size as regular mattresses?
No. Many RV mattresses use non-standard sizes (shorter, narrower, or custom shapes) to fit RV layouts.
What are common RV mattress sizes?
Common sizes include:
- RV Twin
- RV Twin XL
- RV Full
- RV Short Queen (60" x 75")
- RV Queen (60" x 80" or 60" x 75")
- RV King (varies widely)
How do I measure my RV mattress correctly?
Measure length, width, and thickness, and note any rounded corners or cut-outs.
Are RV mattresses comfortable?
Factory RV mattresses are often basic. Many owners upgrade to a RecPro memory foam mattress for improved support, pressure relief, and sleep quality.
What firmness is best for an RV mattress?
It depends on sleep preference:
- Soft: side sleepers
- Medium: most sleepers
- Firm: back/stomach sleepers or heavier individuals
RecPro memory foam RV mattresses are designed to provide ample support and comfort for all sleeping positions.
Do RV mattresses provide enough support?
Higher-quality foam, latex, or hybrid RV mattresses generally provide much better support than stock models.
Are memory foam mattresses good for RVs?
Yes. They're popular because they’re lightweight, quiet, and flexible, but they can retain heat. However, RecPro memory foam mattresses are built with breathable bamboo ticking and a cooling gel infusion, which significantly reduces heat retention.
Can I use a regular mattress in an RV?
Sometimes, but weight, height, and size limitations often make RV-specific mattresses a better fit.
How heavy are RV mattresses?
They're usually lighter than residential mattresses to reduce overall RV weight.
How thick should an RV mattress be?
Most RV mattresses are 5–10 inches thick to allow slide-outs and bed lifts to function properly.
Will a thicker mattress cause problems?
Yes. Too much thickness can block slide-outs, prevent bed storage access, or cause clearance issues.
How long do RV mattresses last?
Typically 5-8 years, depending on materials and usage.
Do RV mattresses come compressed in a box?
Yes. Most foam RV mattresses ship vacuum-sealed and boxed.
How long does an RV mattress take to expand?
Usually 24-72 hours for full expansion.
Can I flip or rotate an RV mattress?
Most foam mattresses should be rotated, not flipped, unless specified by the manufacturer.
