Looking for a Used RV? Keep These Tips in Mind – Pt 2
If you haven't yet checked out part one of this mini blog series, be sure to start there for some great tips on buying a used RV. But, if you're ready for even more helpful information, you've come to the right place!
Buying a used rig doesn't have to be scary or overwhelming. It's understandable that you'd want the best value possible for the rig of your dreams. The good news? That's completely possible! It's simply a matter of knowing what to look for and asking the right questions.
By using the tips listed here in combination with the tips in the first part of this blog series, you'll be well-prepared for purchasing a used RV in the near future.
Know the Market Value
Once you have a particular make and model in mind, you should get an idea of the fair market value price. That isn't to say you'll necessarily get the rig for less than that. You may even have to pay more, if you can't find the price you're looking for anywhere near you.
But, you'll be able to give yourself more of a budget, and a ballpark figure for what your rig should actually cost. If a dealership or private owner is trying to overcharge, you can even use the fair market value to your advantage. They may be willing to haggle a bit and lower the price to your advantage.
Ask Every Question
When you're considering a purchase of a used RV, there are no 'stupid questions.' If you have any concerns, any curiosities, or any general questions about the make and model, don't be afraid to ask. This goes for whether you're buying it from a private owner, or from a dealership. Once you've asked as many questions as possible, don't hesitate to test drive the RV before making your final decision.
Driving the rig yourself will give you the best idea of how it feels. Obviously, you aren't going to be able to pick out every last possible flaw in a 10-15 minute drive, but it will give you a better chance at determining if it's the right fit for you.
Taking the Plunge and Buying a Used RV
You can absolutely buy a used RV with just as much confidence as you could put into a new one. Is there ;a chance it may have some issues? Sure, but asking the right questions, doing your research, and taking the time to learn a bit more about the RV you're looking at can help to ensure you won't have any problems.
There are common problems every RV may run into throughout its lifespan. Just because an RV is used doesn't mean it will run into those problems sooner. Taking care of it properly and performing regular maintenance will extend the life of almost any RV, no matter the year or the mileage. If you're in the market for a rig, but don't want to shell out the cash for something brand new, take comfort in knowing a used model can be your perfect, and reliable, solution.
