Omelet You Finish - But This is the Easiest Campfire Breakfast of All Time!
CAMPING RECIPES
One of the biggest perks of camping is the delicious food you can cook up over an open fire. Even if you’re traveling the country in an RV, parking at your favorite campground and breaking out the cast iron skillet seems to make things taste better, right? But, it’s easy for the same old sausage, eggs, and pancakes to get old quickly (okay, maybe pancakes never get old, but still…). If you’re looking for a quick, creative, and easy breakfast that the whole family can whip up together, look no further than the “bagged” omelet.
This time-saving egg dish will be your family’s new favorite breakfast when you’re on the road. If you have kids, you might even start making it more often at home - it’s just that easy, convenient, and fun.
Bagged Omelet Recipe
Making your “omelets in a bag” couldn’t be easier, and you only need a few specific ingredients on hand. For each bagged omelet, you’ll need:
- 2-3 eggs
- Cheese
- Plastic freezer bags (quart-size)
- Favorite omelet ingredients
Directions:
1.Crack open eggs into a resealable plastic bag, and whisk with a fork until well-beaten.
2.Add your favorite meats, veggies, salt and pepper, and cheese to the bag. Close the bag and work ingredients around with hands.
3.Carefully dip bag into the pot of boiling water and cook for five minutes.
4.Remove with tongs and gently “break up” the eggs before returning the bag to the pot.
5.Continue cooking for another 5-10 minutes, or until eggs are set.
6.Remove with tongs, slide omelet out onto a plate - or let cool slightly and eat directly from the bag!
*It may take longer for your eggs to set if you’ve used three or more - keep checking every 5 minutes or so by removing the bag with your tongs. The good news? It’s nearly impossible to “overcook” your eggs like you would in a skillet! Just make sure they’re set, and you’ll end up with a perfect omelet every time.
Bagged Breakfast for Everyone
Not only are these omelets easy to cook, but they come out in a perfect shape every time! You don’t have to worry about “flipping” or breaking your eggs. The best part, though, is the fact that everyone in the family can enjoy their interpretation of a “perfect” omelet. Turn it into a fun activity by chopping up plenty of different vegetables, meats, and cheeses ahead of time. Then, set them out for a custom “camping omelet bar” in the morning. Everyone’s omelets can be cooked all at once, so they’re all done at the same time - no worrying about making one after another over the fire. That way, everyone finally gets to enjoy a hearty breakfast together - including the cook!
