Want to Hit the Road This Weekend? 3 Tips to Make The Most of It
When most people think about camping or heading out in the RV for a trip, they think about the planning involved. Even if you’re a seasoned RVer, you might have a specific checklist, things you need to do before you go, etc.
But, if the travel bug has really gotten a hold of you (and why wouldn’t it?), there’s no reason you can’t go on a successful last-minute trip and have the time of your life
So, let’s take a look at a few tips you can use to hit the road in a matter of days and fully enjoy the ‘unplanned’ experience.
1. Be Ready for an Adventure
One of the exciting things about a last-minute trip is that it can expand your horizons. You might be forced to go to a new campground if your favorites are booked up. Or, you could take a different route to get somewhere.
Instead of fighting against these things, embrace them. Encourage them. Prepare yourself for a new type of adventure, and you’ll be rewarded by the surprises you pass along the way, rather than finding them to be inconvenient.
2. Have a Map On Hand
Yes, we mean an old school, paper, foldable map. While having a solid data plan on your phone is a great resource and can help you with everything from directions to where to eat, it may not always be reliable.
Many places in the country simply don’t have great service. That’s especially true if your adventure is taking you somewhere off the beaten path. So, make sure you have a map handy to refer to when it comes to getting the directions you need. Let your navigator/passenger guide you. It’s actually a lot of fun to use an old map this way and really adds to the experience.
3. Talk to Local People
No matter where you go, one way you can immerse yourself into some local culture is to actually talk to local people. Don’t be afraid to get out of your rig and do some exploring. Talk to locals about where to eat and what to do for fun. They can give you information that no tourist pamphlet would ever be able to. When you have a local on your side, you can be exposed to some of the country’s best barbecue, or hidden nature reserves, or maybe an apple orchard that isn’t open to the public but the farmer who runs it thinks you’re nice.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to last-minute trips. They’re exciting, adventurous, and you’ll find yourself with memories to last a lifetime.
Keep these ideas in mind for the next time you decide to hit the road on a whim, and you’ll undoubtedly have a more memorable experience to look back on by the time you return home. The idea is to keep an open mind and be flexible. If you can do that, last-minute trips could become one of your favorite things!
