Description
In the RV world there are various types of power. There is a whole lot more going on for your home on wheels than there is with a stationary home that just has a gas line and a power line. Your RV electrical system probably has a 12-volt DC system and a 120-volt AC system, inverters, converters, and some use solar panels as well. In addition to electric, you might have diesel and/or propane to power your equipment. Since you've increased the number of sources for energy, you have also increased the number of things that can go wrong.
If you use propane accessories in your RV, then you should consider having a propane gas detector. Like a smoke detector in your home, it will detect any LP gas that accumulates inside your RV and alert you to its presence. Take for example this Propane Leak Detector Alarm from RecPro, featuring an LED indicator, an audible alarm, and one Test/Reset button for interaction and feedback. If installed properly and located no more than 18" from the floor, this detector is designed to alarm at less than 25% legal explosive limit (LEL). The LED light will change to red and the alarm will sound every 5 seconds giving you a heads up that its time to get moving.
Propane detectors have a service life and should be replaced regularly, but not as often as the batteries in your smoke detector. This one has a 7-year life and is warrantied for 2 years.
We aren't saying something will go wrong, but wouldn't it be nice to know you have an alarm to alert you to it if it does? Since the space inside your RV is small, gas can accumulate quickly and become volatile. When you have a detector, you have a better chance of getting your family and pets out before anyone is hurt.
