Camping and Cardio - Fitness Gear You Can Bring With You
When you’re going camping or heading out on a long RV trip, there are plenty of ways you can get in a good workout. Depending on where you are, you can hit the trails and get in a good run every morning, or go hiking for a few hours during the day.
But, if you’re truly a fitness buff and you love your typical workout routine, you might want to bring some of your gear on the road with you.
Obviously, it’s not all that feasible to bring a full set of weights or a treadmill. But, there are some pieces of fitness equipment that travel very well, and can make your camping workouts feel a bit more like home.
Resistance Bands
Resistance bands can offer the most bang for your buck when it comes to fitness gear you can take anywhere. They are incredibly lightweight, can be packed into small spaces, and can help you to get a great workout! If you don’t want to bring dumbells with you while you’re camping, resistance bands are a great way to get in some strength training exercise.
You can find resistance bands with different levels of tension, depending on your own personal strength level. Not only are they great for building muscle but they can help with stretching, too.
Yoga Mat
Investing in a travel yoga mat is a great way to be able to work out virtually anywhere - especially outside. You don’t even have to be a yoga enthusiast to get good use out of it. Whether you’re just stretching, doing floor exercises/core work, or you want to roll out your muscles, putting a yoga mat down on the ground can help to add a bit of a cushion between you and the hard dirt or rocks beneath you. Plus, you can easily roll it up in a matter of seconds to take it with you to your next destination.
Ab Roller
When you hear the words ‘ab roller,’ you might think of an infomercial from the 1990s, and...well, there would be some truth to that. But, this is one “as seen on TV” product that even a lot of celebrity trainers swear by.
An ab roller is a great option for a core workout, especially if you have back issues. Essentially, it allows you to perform a fluid, moving plank, which works your entire core, your arms, and your legs all at once. Even using it for just a few minutes a day can greatly improve your core strength. Plus, most ab rollers weight just over one pound and can be used on just about any flat surface, including the floor of a tent, or even on your sleeping bag.
When you’re camping or RVing, don’t be afraid to use what nature has to offer in order to get in a good workout. But, if you really want some of the “comforts” of your traditional exercise equipment, try these simple solutions to make your exercise routine on the road more familiar.
