How to Stay Warm in Your Rig While Cold Weather Camping
Camping in the winter may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but when you own an RV, you can enjoy it while actually drinking a cup of tea - and so much more!
All cheesy RV advertisements aside, the good news about camping in an RV is that you don’t have to stop when the snow falls. In fact, camping in the winter can be a lot of fun, and there are plenty of cozy activities you can do while you appreciate the beauty of nature in winter.
If you’re looking for some cold-weather activities you can enjoy from the comfort of your RV this winter, read on! We’ve got several ideas that will keep you warm all season long, while still spending time at your favorite campgrounds.
Keep a Deck of Cards on Hand
Nothing screams “stuck in the snow” like a game of cards. Whether you’re playing poker with your friends or a game of “Go Fish” with the kids, a card game in the RV is a great way to pass the time (especially if there’s hot chocolate involved!).
But, a deck of cards can go so much further than just games with friends or family. You can build a house of cards or even learn a magic trick to impress your kids. There are so many possibilities, and you can entertain yourself and others with just 52 pieces of paper!
Winter Bird Watching
Depending on where you are in the country, you can see some great winter wildlife while camping, including birds! Some of the most common winter birds include:
- Woodpeckers
- Cardinals
- American Goldfinches
- Tufted titmouse
- White-breasted Nuthatch
While you can absolutely take a chilly nature walk or a hike to see birds and other winter wildlife, you can also do so from the warmth of your RV. Spend a few hours staying cozy inside and point out which animals you see from the windows. You might be surprised at how close they’re willing to get when you’re still and quiet.
Start a New Hobby
If you’re a full-time RVer, the winter is the perfect time to develop a new hobby - especially if you don’t want to head south. It’s a time to slow down, stay inside, and appreciate the weather by looking out the window.
With a bit of extra time on your hands, why not learn a new hobby this year? The sky is truly the limit when it comes to what you could do, from learning an instrument to brushing up on your knitting or crocheting skills, you can give something a try that you have always thought about but never had the time. You can even make a ‘challenge’ for yourself to learn something new by the end of the winter season.
These ideas are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what you can do in your RV this winter. Whether you want to spend some time outdoors or you want to remain safe and warm in your rig, you don’t have to travel to a warmer climate to enjoy RV living.
