RV Storage Ideas

Finding space to store your items can be a challenge in an RV. While many models out there have ample storage in them already, it can be an even bigger help if you find a few well-designed pieces to add to your RV’s organization. While RV organization ideas may sound difficult, there are many steps you can take towards a clean, roomy, and organized living space.

Items

First off, take stock of everything you’re wanting to bring along and everything you already have installed in your RV. This is a large and frustrating task, yes. By doing this, though, you’ll have a better idea of what you’re working with. It doesn’t help to organize your bathroom only to find another crate of bathroom items in a kitchen drawer later on. Once you know what you have, figure out what you really need. Do you actually need one small pan, one medium pan, and one large pan? And how about the ten books you’ve been “reading” for five years? These items take up space that could be used for items that you use daily and actually enjoy. By leaving out items that are not as important, you’ll have more room for the items that you use on a daily basis. And how about those items that only serve one purpose? Finding multi-purpose items can be a lifesaver when it comes to RV storage and organization. For example, a couch that can transform into a bed saves so much room versus having both a bed and a couch. On a smaller scale, having a 2 in 1 shampoo means potentially cutting your shower items in half. It’s also a great idea to invest in items that are smaller or can shrink down. These might include pop-up bowls, a collapsible table, or even a vacuum-sealed clothes bag. Making these changes on an item-by-item basis leads to big storage later on when you’re moving your items back into your rig.

Create a System

Once you know what you want to bring, make sure you have a system in place to keep your space clean and orderly. When you’re putting your items back in, designate a place for everything (yes, everything). This includes anything from your clothes to your TV remote to your spare change. Giving everything a home makes cleaning up so much easier and it removes the idea of “this doesn’t have a place so it’ll have to just go wherever,” which leads to clutter over time that you’ll just have to organize all over again. The “one in, one out” rule is also a great rule to live by. Basically, any time you bring something new into your RV, you have to take something out. By using this rule, you keep the number of items in your rig steady, keeping space from becoming crowded. Finally, make sure you keep a cleaning routine. If you’re constantly moving around, this might not be as big of an ordeal, as you have to put everything away before you move anyway. If you are staying in one spot for a long time, though, keeping your space clean prevents clutter from building up. Without this regular cleaning, no amount of storage ideas will keep your space tidy.

Handy Storage Ideas

Past these more general ideas, there are a ton of storage ideas online, from investing in some great storage racks to using a shoe rack for extra storage to using a ton of command hooks. While there is no replacement for simply having less and keeping everything clean and roomy, there are a ton of little ways to create space in your RV.
