So, what is hard water exactly? In simple terms, it refers to water that contains a high concentration of calcium, magnesium, and other minerals. While it may not pose a direct health risk, hard water can be quite troublesome, as the dissolved minerals can easily get stuck to your skin, plumbing, and more. It can cause skin irritation during bathing or handwashing, reduce the effectiveness of soaps and detergents, leave unsightly rust stains, and result in the accumulation of mineral scale (that white, chalky substance) in your plumbing fixtures.
Benefits:
- Prevents hard water, rust stains, and scale build-up
- Reduces mineral build-up on plumbing fixtures
- Better soap and detergent performance
- Enjoy soft water wherever you go

The 16,000 Grain RecPro Portable RV Water Softener effectively addresses these issues by utilizing a highly efficient Cation Exchange Resin to eliminate hard minerals from your water. This ensures that you can access soft water whenever and wherever you require it, providing a gentler experience for your skin and enhancing the performance of soaps and detergents. Additionally, it significantly reduces the occurrence of rust stains and mineral scale build-up in your plumbing system. It should be emphasized that this water softener is specifically designed for water filtration purposes and should not be utilized beyond its intended scope of use.

The 16,000 Grain RecPro Portable RV Water Softener comes with a softener tank, one connector hose, installation, operation, and maintenance instructions, and a bottle of fifty RecPro Water Hardness Test Strips (RP-2374). The test strips are convenient for quickly and accurately checking the water hardness before and after using the water softener. If needed, other models, resin refill kits, hoses, and hard water test strips can be purchased separately on the RecPro website.

Please note that these softeners are designed for use in an RV environment. They can be used in non-RV settings but they may require some modifications in order to work properly. Some of the most common issues when switching the softener from an RV plumbing setup to a non-RV comes from pressure. RV water pressure is typically between 45-50 PSI. This softener can handle up to 150 PSI max, but that is meant to be in infrequent situations. It is not designed for continuous use at that high of a pressure. Non-RV plumbing setups often run between 60-80 PSI, so they're going to be harder on the softener than if they were in an RV. One way to deal with this is to install a pressure regulator that allows you to lower the PSI so there is less stress on your softener.
Another thing that can effect your softener is a phenomena known as water hammer. This is when water is cut off from a shut-off valve and sends a shock wave back through the plumbing. This can cause sudden spikes in pressure in the hose and thus lead to cracking in the valves and threads of the softener. RVs tend to use slow closing faucets and valves and soft hoses so this helps disperse and minimize water hammer. In residential and commercial use, the hard piping and instant shut-off valves cause that force to intensify. To work around this, a water hammer arrestor can help absorb that shock wave and keep it from hitting your softener.
