Heat Your Water with Ease with a New RV Water Heater

A steamy hot shower can be just the thing to get you ready to relax after a long day full of adventure. But if your RV water heater isn’t up to snuff, then that water may be lukewarm at best and frigid at worst. You don’t want to rely on a shoddy heater when you want hot water. RecPro carries the best in water heater tanks, making it easy for you to find a new water heater for your rig.

RecPro is selling Suburban water heaters as Suburban is a well known and trusted name in the RV water heater market. When you buy a Suburban, you know you’re getting a heater and tank that are high quality and rigorously tested to work for a long time. This water heater is model SW10DE. It runs on both gas and electric to heat the water and it’s made to be hardwired into your electrical system.

Model SW10DE

Here’s what the model name means. SW signals that you are buying a Suburban branded water heater and tank. The 10 shows the capacity of the tank. SW10DE’s tank size is 10 gallons. The D is for the gas heating system. It’s a direct spark ignition system, meaning it doesn’t need a pilot light to ignite the gas to heat your water. It instead creates a spark through a 12 volt DC hookup that ignites the gas. The E signals that this is also an electric heating unit. The electric heating element is powered by a 120 volt AC hookup.

The dimensions of this water heater and tank are 16 7/32”H x 16 7/32”W x 20 1/2”D, and requires 16 3/8”H x 16 3/8”W x 20 3/4”D for the cutout. The best installation area for this is on the side walls of the rig. It is not advised to be installed facing the front. Take care when selecting the area to install as it shouldn’t be installed below a slide out or where doors may be open to block them. Blocking the vent can cause dangerous gasses to build up.

12V Direct spark ignition, recovery rate, 10 gallon capacity

Safety Features

When shopping for a water heater, you also look for safety features, and Suburban’s come with plenty. This heater is CSA certified. During the manufacturing process, this tank is pressure tested twice to ensure that it is sturdy and made to Suburban’s standards. The tank itself is wrapped in insulation, keeping heat with the water in the tank and keeping it from spreading to the areas surrounding your tank. The heater also comes with temperature monitoring to maintain a water temperature of 135°F (57°C). This is a non adjustable temperature. Use caution when using hot water as too hot water can cause burning and scalding. Be sure to always test the water coming from the faucet before using it.

This water heater also comes with a pressure relief valve. The valve is designed to help the unit keep the internal temperature and pressure in a safe range. When the tank reaches dangerous levels, the valve opens, allowing a drip to a small stream of water to return the tank to normal. It will open if the water in the tank reaches 210°F or if the pressure in the tank has built to 150 pounds of pressure. So if your water heater happens to be leaking from the relief valve, don’t immediately worry that something’s wrong. It may just be regulating your tank to a safe range. Also installed in this tank is an anode rod. The anode rod draws sediment and corrosive materials to it to keep those materials from corroding your tank. And the great thing about an anode rod, is that you can easily replace it when it has become too corroded.

For install and shipping, this tank weighs about 46 pounds and when it’s full of water, it weighs about 129 pounds. The tank is porcelain-lined steel. So it’s durable and long-lasting and also safe for potable water, as long as the water source is safe to drink. The inlet and outlet come with plastic tubes installed into the fittings that are there to enhance water circulation.

The water heater requires both a 12V DC and a 120V AC for both heating elements, as well as requiring a propane gas hookup. It has a BTU level of 12K and a wattage consumption of 1440. The tank has two recovery rates, one for gas and one for electric. The electric rate is 6.1 gallons per hour and the gas rate is 10.1 gallons per hour.

This tank doesn’t come with mounting hardware. The product is just the heater and tank. To have a whole system, you have the option to add a flush mount door and interior control switch. Both additions come in either black or white. By buying a Suburban tank, you are also receiving a Suburban warranty. Your user manual holds your warranty information, so be sure to hold on to it after installation.

Don’t let an inferior water heating system keep you from warm, relaxing showers. Upgrade to a Suburban branded water heater from RecPro and make your next shower the best it can be. Shop our website or call our Customer Care Team for more information.
