Description

Drain StopperIn any shower, whether on an RV or in a stationary home, you have to have a P-trap. This is because it's this little gadget that directs the waste from the shower away from the drain and out of the home. This helps keep down smells and fumes and prevents small organisms from entering your living space. The P-trap is made of three parts; the inlet, the downward bend, and the outlet. The inlet is where the water enters. The downward bend is where the water gathers and fills, producing an airtight seal to keep out the fumes and small organisms. The outlet is where the water exits the pipe. The P-trap as a whole is generally located below the center of your shower and as close as possible to your shower drain. The farther away it is from your shower drain, the more odors that will develop. Generally speaking, you should clean the P-trap on a regular basis. This will help to decrease the odors as well as prevent your P-trap from getting clogged and needing to be replaced. It's not as easy to clean as any old drain, though. If you have a plumber's snake, you could use that, however, if you don't, there are other ways. You could use a mix of vinegar, warm water, and a bristled brush or you could use a safe yet effective drain cleaner from time to time. If you use the drain cleaner, just make sure that you only use it on occasion, since too often could damage the pipes.
