Conserving water
When living in a recreational vehicle, it is important to recognize that the water tank will be smaller than those in traditional homes. If you are using a 6 or 10 gallon unit, showers should be limited to a shorter amount of time. One way to save more water is to turn it off while scrubbing. Consider your showering habits; do you value the ability to take longer showers or can you compromise and shorten the length as needed? How many people will be residing in your camper? If your water heater is too small, there is a possibility that the water will get cold before everyone takes a shower. In general, the bigger the tank, the better it will accommodate more people. Some other things to think about with a water heater for your RV:
- When looking at a model to install, it's best to choose between Atwood or Suburban models
- Water heaters come with different types of ignition depending on your RV's source of heating and fuel. They can be automatic, electronic, pilot, and more. Determine which type your vehicle needs.
- The sizes of RV tanks vary. We offer 6 and 10 gallon sizes. While 6 gallons is the most common size people tend to go with, you should invest in a larger size if there are more people in your camper.
- Determine what BTU (British thermal unit) you want for your water heater. While a higher BTU means a higher price, it means better performance with heat generation.
- The weight of the appliance is important. Newer models, such as the choices provide by RecPro, are now more efficient at lighter weights.
- Hot water tanks utilize either propane, electricity, or heat from the engine. If one of these methods fails, the other can be used as a backup. In order to use the electric mode, your vehicle should have 120v shore or generator power.
